Broken Glass is the nineteenth episode of Season 6 and the ninety-ninth episode of Teen Wolf.

Derek was seen driving a black Camaro in this episode. This is a callback to Season 1 and Season 2, when Derek used to drive a black Camaro before turning it in for a gray Toyota SUV in Season 3A.
Monroe is shown torturing Ethan in front of a crowd of new recruits in this episode to try to scare them into fearing the supernatural. She was shown to have incapacitated and captured both Ethan and Jackson Whittemore in Werewolves of London.
- This is also a parallel to Season 1's Co-Captain and Formality, when Kate Argent used the same tactics to reveal the secret of the supernatural and their family's Hunter legacy to her niece, Allison Argent.
Sydney references the battle she witnessed between Scott McCall and the Beast of Gevaudan in this episode. This battle occurred in The Beast of Beacon Hills while Sydney and a dozen other students were forced to hide in the high school library.
Monroe and the other teenage and adult Hunters continue to give away the weaponry that Gerard Argent donated free of charge. He gave away these firearms in Triggers to help weaponize his army.
This episode marks yet another "international" episode of Teen Wolf in which at least one of the characters goes to another country; in this case, it was Chris Argent traveling to Brazil to learn more about the mass murders, fear-baiting, and the investigation into dead Werewolves being conducted by Derek Hale.

Monroe references the fact that Nolan was allegedly behind the shooting at the McCall House. The shooting occurred in Triggers, and it was revealed that Gabe was actually the shooter and seemingly told Monroe that Nolan did it in an effort to save his life.
- However, Monroe and Gabe eventually revealed that they knew that Nolan would go to Liam Dunbar and the other McCall Pack members and defect from the Hunter army after their recruiting meeting. It is unknown if Gabe really did shoot up the house in an attempt to protect Nolan by giving him credibility, or if Gabe was ordered to commit the shooting and give the credit to Nolan in order to test his loyalty to their cause. Since Scott McCall has been one of Gerard and Monroe's goals from the beginning, it stands to reason that they would have seen shooting up his house as killing two birds with one stone in this regard.
Derek reveals that he was in North Carolina to hide a vial of liquid yellow wolfsbane in a second Hale Vault; though he and Chris Argent don't identify it by name, it is implied to be yellow wolfsbane, as it was vaguely referred as a powerful poison as well as an antidote. Monroe was shown to have a much smaller vial of the same substance in Said the Spider to the Fly.
- Because it's an antidote, Derek rejects Argent's advice to destroy it, though both agreed that they believed Gerard wanted it to save himself. Gerard was poisoned by ingesting Mountain Ash before being bitten by Derek as an Alpha in Season 2's Master Plan, and he used yellow wolfsbane to cure the illness in Season 5B's Codominance.
- Kate Argent also reveals that she wants a large amount of it in order to kill Scott McCall, a desire that she's had since Season 4, and which she failed to achieve in Smoke and Mirrors.
Noah Stilinski references Rafael McCall and the fact that he saw dozens of high school students with bandaged hands, which led him to realize that the Hunters (influenced by the Anuk-ite using Aaron's appearance) were testing students to see how fast they healed and expose them if they were supernatural. This testing occurred in Triggers and was carried out by Aaron and Gabe.
Lydia Martin has another premonition in this episode that is somewhat of a callback to the premonition she had in Said the Spider to the Fly, in which she was in the high school, which was covered in cobwebs, and touching different sections of the webs allowed her to get flashes of the future.
- In this premonition, Lydia saw Peter Hale, Ethan Steiner, Jackson Whittemore, Derek Hale, Malia Tate, and Scott McCall petrified into stone after they made eye contact with the Anuk-ite.
Derek, Argent, and Kate all reunited for the first time since Season 4's Smoke and Mirrors in this episode.

Cultural References[]

Mason references the German historical event of Kristallnacht, also known as the Night of Broken Glass in a parallel to the current strife occurring in Beacon Hills in which the supernatural community of Beacon Hills (in this case, the Jewish diaspora) and the Hunters and scared Humans who were influenced into joining them (in this case, the Nazi party and those forced into joining them). During this event, the Nazi Party's paramilitary force scoured the cities for Jewish-owned properties and synagogues, which led to the murder of at least ninety Jews and the arrest and subsequent incarceration in concentration camps of roughly 30,000 Jewish men. The event got its name from the thousands of shards of broken glass that littered the street in the days that followed as a result of the SA smashing the windows of Jewish-owned businesses and homes.
Deucalion teaches Scott and Malia some highlights of several concepts used to teach blind people how to rely on their other senses to navigate the world, and remarks that mobility specialists require 120 hours of training blindfolded with a white cane in order to get certification. The concepts Deucalion teaches them are:
- Echolocation is the use of sounds in order to navigate by determining the direction from which the sound and its resulting echoes originate. The blind often use this concept to help them navigate through the world by tapping their cane on the ground or by clicking their tongue.
- Thermoception is a sense that allows one to perceive the subtle changes in temperature around them. This ability to sense temperature comes from thermoreceptors which are connected to the spinal cord along the Lissauer's tract.
- Equilibrioception, also known as a "sense of balance," is a physiological sense that prevents humans and animals from falling over whenever they stand or move. It requires several body systems working in tandem, including the eyes, the vestibular system of the inner ear, and the brain's sense of location.
- Proprioception is the sense of knowing where one's body is in space and the strength involved in completing certain movements. This concept is also known as kinesthesia, and it is provided by spindles of muscles (including skeletal striated muscles), tendons, and the fibrous capsules in the body's joints.

Trivia[]

The episode title is a reference to the historical event known in German as Kristallnacht, or the Night of Broken Glass, which occurred in Nazi Germany and the Free City of Danzig from November 9–10, 1938.
Chris Argent is revealed to have contacts in Brazil's police force, who he seeks out for information regarding the Anuk-ite's reign of terror.
Derek Hale remarked to Chris Argent, "More than one Hale, more than one vault," implying that since there are multiple vaults, there are likely more extended Hale Family members who's still alive across the country. Another vault exists in North Carolina.
Deucalion reveals that a Werewolf's Super Senses are 100 times more heightened than a human's.
Derek states that he would not be going home to protect Beacon Hills, implying that he would be going to help protect and defend Scott.
Monroe began researching to find the supernatural creatures in Beacon Hills by using the Sheriff's deputies under her control to look into any past cases that could be caused by supernatural creatures, and using the nurses, orderlies, and doctors under her control to look into any past patients who miraculously healed and discharged in the same day despite coming in with serious injuries.
Nolan revealed to Liam Dunbar that the Hunter army brought in four unknown supernatural creatures who are in their own private wing and who are being given IV drips of purple wolfsbane. However, it is likely that these IVs were not actually running through their systems, as wolfsbane is highly toxic to humans as much as it is to canine creatures.
